When asked to trial the Q-Switch Laser Treatment at Contour Clinic’s new Castle Hill clinic, Marie-Antoinette Issa jumped at the chance to learn more.

Q-Switch Laser Marks the Spot

Laser has long been a popular beauty treatment. Essentially, Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (aka Laser), works by harnessing the power of light and heat. It creates a controlled injury in the tissue and stimulates a healing response, thereby improving the appearance of the skin.

With many Laser treatments available, what makes the Q-Switch Laser treatment stand out?

Its ability to emit high-energy pulses in nanoseconds, gently penetrating the skin’s surface, is a notable feature. This ultra-short pulse duration allows the laser to target specific pigments, without causing significant damage to surrounding tissues. This type of precision minimises the risk of scarring and other adverse effects. These carefully calibrated wavelengths work to embrace your skin’s unique needs. This prompts the body’s natural healing mechanisms, promoting the gradual fading of a number conditions. Think: age spots, sun spots and freckles, birthmarks, certain types of scars (such as acne), and even tattoo removal.

Generally speaking the Q-Switch is suitable for a range of skin types and conditions. However, it works best on individuals with lighter to medium skin tones, such as myself. Because this laser targets melanin, people with darker skin are at a risk of adverse side effects.

Q-Switch Laser Treatment at Contour Clinics

As a popular provider of medical and cosmetic procedures, Contour Clinics offer a generous range of emerging aesthetic treatments. Among their most in-demand are dermatological injectables, hair restoration, and several non-surgical skin improvement options.

But I was there for the laser. I was noticeably nervous as I stepped inside the Castle Hill clinic. However my trepidation eased somewhat at the warm welcome and the luxe, serene surroundings. Everything about this space whispered relaxation. Sensing my trepidation, my aesthetician Tenny took me under her wing. She cast her discerning eye over my visage, and addressed my concerns with a gentle touch.

Her verdict? My skin’s rough patches, hints of redness, enlarged pores and patches of pigmentation were stalling putting my best face forward. And her recommendation? The Q-Switch Laser Treatment using the Alma device. This is a versatile modern beauty tech device that promises to unlock skin’s vitality.

The experience

Anxiety aside, the Q-Switch Laser treatment actually proved to be a relatively relaxing experience. It delivers a cooling sensation with each pulse, which ensured comfort throughout the 40-minute session.

Tenny explained that she programmed the Q-Switch Laser to selectively target the excess melanin in my problem zones. It then breaks pigmentation down and allows the body’s healing processes to naturally clear it. At the same time, it stimulates collagen production and aims to improve overall skin texture.

The result

Tenny warned me that the benefits wouldn’t be immediately visible (aside from a touch of tingly redness). It works with the skin’s natural renewal process, which is roughly 28 days. For this reason, she suggested I book a minimum of three sessions – one month apart – for best results.

Following my first treatment, my blackheads appeared far softer and my skin tone and texture definitely appeared to be improved. With that in mind, I quickly scheduled my second session to follow.

Q-Switch Laser Treatments takes between 20–40 minutesCosts start from $99 per session depending on size and area. Results will be visible from 2–10 sessions.
