Severe, untreated acne can sometimes result in scars, including ice-pick scars, boxcar scars and rolling scars.
There are a range of treatments for acne scars available that can help improve the appearance of the scarring, including:

  • dermabrasion or dermaplaning: special equipment is used to remove the top layer of skin in people with severe acne scarring
  • chemical peels: these remove the top layer of skin to help reduce scarring
  • laser therapy: including laser resurfacing to remove the top layer of skin and non-ablative laser treatment (fractional laser) that promotes skin healing through the stimulation of new collagen in specific areas
  • dermal fillers: skilfully administered, these can be administered to reduce the affects of severe scarring.
